Drivers with fuelGenie cards are set to benefit from an exciting new link-up between the UK’s largest independent forecourt operator and one of our partners.
The agreement between Morrisons and Motor Fuel Group (MFG) is good news for drivers and businesses, as it reinforces the strong commitment to value for money fuel pricing at the supermarket’s 337 forecourts.
The £2.5 billion acquisition of Morrisons will see the supermarket giant take a minority stake of approximately 20% in MFG to cement the strategic partnership.
It will mean significant investment in expanding and improving the in-store experience, with a focus on upgrading the retail environment, ‘food-to-go’ and valeting facilities.
Work on the physical side of the upgrade will begin from 5 May this year with a staggered brief closure of the Morrisons sites as new till systems and terminals are fitted.
Both fuelGenie and fuelGenie+ cardholders will still be able to get the reduced price petrol and diesel they’re used to by downloading the fuelGenie app.
The strategic partnership will significantly enhance MFG’s presence on the UK’s main routes and add to its current 900 sites, many of which will have an emphasis on electric vehicle charging in the future.
When it comes to using your fuelGenie and fuelGenie+ cards for the best value petrol and diesel, nothing will change before or after the nationwide forecourt revamp; the Morrisons branding will also remain the same.
Rami Baitiéh, CEO of Morrisons, says: “This partnership will see us combine our respective expertise and resources to deliver the best value for customers at the pump, in our convenience stores and in our supermarkets.
“Customers will continue to see a competitive and attractive forecourt offering. We are delighted to have such a strong partner in MFG and look forward to the opportunities the combined forecourt offering will provide.”
Each week-long closure will mean the relevant Morrisons site will not be accessible to any drivers, whether they are fuelGenie customers looking to keep enjoying lower prices or members of the public.
Fleet managers and operations teams should ensure their drivers are fully aware of the temporary closures, which will be updated on the website.
Card users who regularly visit Morrisons forecourts as part of their daily or weekly routes are urged to check the app before they set off to find the closest and easiest alternative. For fuelGenie users that might mean a different Morrisons or a switch to one of the wide range of Tesco or Sainsbury’s sites.
Those HGV a, van and car drivers with a fuelGenie+ card also have the added choice of most Shell stations in the UK.
Key benefits of the strategic partnership include:
- Continued commitment to supermarket fuel pricing across the Morrisons sites. Value-for-money supermarket fuel will remain the offering on Morrisons forecourts, with the Morrisons brand above the door
- Significant investment to expand and improve the convenience retail proposition, with a focus on enhancing the retail environment, ‘food-to-go’ and valeting facilities to customers
- MFG investment and installation of Ultra-Rapid EV charging infrastructure across the acquired sites to expand its market leading nationwide EV network
- Installation of 800 Ultra-Rapid 150kW EV chargers capable of adding 100 miles of range in around 10 minutes, within the first five years
- Improved funding for further investment in food and groceries across Morrisons petrol forecourts.
The relationship will position MFG as one of the largest and most significant ultra-rapid EV charge point operators in the UK, with more than 1,300 sites serving and powering millions of customers a week.
The company’s CEO, William Bannister, says: “We’re proud to be a British entrepreneurial success story that is investing in jobs, critical infrastructure and serving our communities to help the country achieve its decarbonisation transition.
“We will be there to serve and power our customers, regardless of what vehicle they drive, in the years ahead as we play a key role in keeping the country and its economy moving. We look forward to working with Morrisons to provide best-in-class charging, refuelling and retail experiences for all our customers.”
Watch out for an email we’ll be sending with more information about the temporary closures nearer the time.
